James C. MacDonald Award Nominations

The Board of Directors of the Ontario Collaborative Law Federation invites your input into the selection of the 2017 James C. MacDonald award recipient. Collaborative professionals throughout Ontario are invited to submit nominations for the 2017 award.

Download the Nomination Form here.

The Award is named in honour of James C. MacDonald, it’s first recipient, and a prime mover behind the establishment of the Ontario Collaborative Law Federation.  Jim MacDonald was called to the Bar in 1958 and was one of Canada’s most respected litigators at the time he heard about Collaborative Law.  It was while attending a 2000 National Family Law Conference in Newfoundland that Jim became inspired by the possibilities of a settlement-focused process that protected children and did not include court as a back-up plan.  On his return to Toronto he brought together a number of experienced family lawyers and shared his enthusiasm about the Collaborative process.  With Jim’s leadership and his respected position in the legal community a local training was organized, the Toronto Collaborative Family Law group was established, and Jim became its first Chair.  Jim made connections with many other Collaborative groups forming in Ontario and went on to share his leadership at the provincial level.

The Award was established in 2006 by the OCLF to recognize Jim MacDonald, but also to honour collaborative professionals in this province who have made “extraordinary contributions to the furtherance of the goals of the Federation and the promotion of collaborative practice in the Province of Ontario”.  Legal, family and financial professionals from across Ontario are eligible to be nominated.

The award will be presented at our conference on September 15 and 16 in Niagara Falls.  Please ensure that nominations are received no later than 5:00 p.m. on, July 14, 2017.
